What is Tirume?
Tirume is a WealthTech startup headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda that seeks to help East Africans build wealth sustainably using modern finance and technology systems and methods.
We believe that that people of good character, integrity, and reliability are being significantly undervalued throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. This massive untapped resource can be solved through systems of transparency that increase employment, investment, and wealth throughout the continent.
We are developing a blockchain-based system for banks, fintechs, and employers that highlights people’s successes in complying with smart contracts such as paying rent, completing work tasks, and delivering on other agreements.
The first use case to test Tirume’s mobile phone app, blockchain credit history, financing and technology is with an affordable housing project at our wholly owned Marabou Estate in Kinyinya Sector, Gasabo District of Kigali, Rwanda down the hill from the Kigali Green City Project.
Why is a new type of credit history needed?
Existing credit reporting systems involve a closed system whereby banks and other institutions report to a central agency who owes them money, who is late or defaulting, and provides negative marks against borrowers that make things difficult to borrow in the future. Existing credit reporting systems often have incorrect or out of date information, may be difficult to correct errors, and disregards other areas of a borrower’s life that a person may be performing virtuously.
The repayment reliability of hundreds of millions of first time prospective borrowers are often a mystery to lenders despite other indications of reliability such as complying with contracts such as paying rent, completing work tasks, and delivering successfully on other agreements.
What is Tirume’s approach to it’s blockchain based credit history?
Tirume uses a blockchain-based open system that allows hundreds of millions of prospective borrowers, financial institutions, employers to publish good things about people, specifically the integrity of their delivery and their successes in paying rent, completing work tasks, and delivering successfully on other agreements.
